Our Story
Todd Kirkpatrick has been involved in service to his fellow man since a teenager. He has dedicated his life to helping others who are in need. Todd presently serves as a career firefighter/paramedic with both a full-time and part-time department. Prior to that, and before even graduating high school, Todd served with the United States Army National Guard for nine years and received an honorable discharge. At the same time, he also worked at a local fire department as a volunteer firefighter/paramedic. Furthermore, Todd worked for the Critical Care Transport Team at Rainbow and Babies Children’s Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio, for five years. In 1997, Todd was hired into his current full-time position, eventually achieving the rank of Assistant Chief directly from the rank of firefighter. Sadly, due to financial cutbacks in 2008, the position of Assistant Chief was removed from the city charter and Todd returned to his former position which he currently holds. As busy as he was, Todd met his wife Maria, in the same year that he was hired full-time; they wed in 2001and have been happily together since. In 2000, Todd also joined another department as a volunteer, which turned into a part-time position a few years later. Moreover, Todd is the current Fire Chaplain for his part time department as well as a current Regional Director of the Ohio Federation of Fire Chaplains. In addition to his first responder career, Todd is the current Managing Director of The Off-Duty Fireman Clothing Company, he is also the current Managing Director of Let’s make It! and host of the Kilted Kwilter YouTube Channel; soon to launch later this Spring!
In his leisure time, Todd loves: dog sledding with his pure-bred Siberian huskies, woodworking, camping and a variety of other hobbies.
Todd’s wife Maria is a multi-talented artist: designer, graphic artist, professional (landscape, portrait, and wedding) photographer and published author (one book that she co-wrote reached the number one, best-selling book status in a specialized category on Amazon!) She works in many diverse genres and media such as fabric, wire, glass, ceramics, embroidery, cross stitch, needlepoint, fiber, watercolor and photography. She has studied fashion design at Kent State University in Kent Ohio and Interior Design at Cuyahoga Community College in Beechwood, Ohio. She has an extensive background in sewing which began when she was five years old.
In her leisure time Maria loves to travel, quilt, make garments, create craft patterns, write, draw, garden, walk and do creative photography and editing. In addition to being the Creative Director for The Off-Duty Fireman Clothing Company, she is also the Creative Director for Let’s Make It! and is a U.S. Patent Holder.
In 2018, Todd and Maria put their heads together and came up with the idea of starting their own clothing business when it became a hassle to order uniforms for Todd. They didn’t like the long drive, high prices, compromised quality and long wait times to receive his orders. They decided that instead of complaining, they would do something about it and so they did.
Firstly, they wanted to offer quality products at sensible prices.
Second, they wanted a quick turnaround time (the Covid crisis put a dent in that) instead of waiting months in some cases to get embroidery, silk screen or patches sewn on his uniforms.
Third, they wanted to provide clients with the opportunity to place small orders. Say, “Bye Bye” to minimum quantities!
And last but not least, they wanted to give back to first responders by offering services that weren’t found anywhere else, such as free delivery and online stores specifically catered to each department’s need.
Thus, The Off-Duty Fireman Clothing Company was born, and since 2020, TODFCC has expanded to provide clothing services to ANYONE who needs high quality embroidery, screen printing and heat press designs.
